DATE: 27-2 JUNE
We align our programmes with the national calendar events. As we are the activists of children’s right and protection, doing our best to protect and give them the life they deserve as children, we could not let child protection week go by without doing anything to remind them how special they are and giving them precautions against any form of abuse.
CAMPAIGN AT SCHOOLS
Our social worker and volunteer joined forces with other stake holders and government departments and visited one of the neighbouring schools which have a lot of reported cases of sexual abuse of young children. Children were taught how to protect themselves and also importantly to speak out should they encounter such abuse so they can get help even medically before they contract other diseases such as HIV and STI’s.
CHILD AND CARE WORKERS CAMPAIGN IN COTTAGES
We also observed child protection week with our resident children where our professionally trained child and youth care workers had group talks in the children’s cottages teaching and discussing matters that bother them as children.
CHILDREN’S FORUM DURING CHILD PROTECTION WEEK
Our children have their own forum meetings where they get to discuss any matters that they feel should be rectified and they would give each other advices and support. We motivated them to hold their meeting during child protection week so we could attend to their grievances and we wanted to hear them speak out and let their voices be heard. We do not want to impose everything on children but we want them to be empowered an be able to stand for themselves with us supporting them all the way unconditionally and without judging and bring the best in them
We keep our children busy with activities that will benefit them in the present and in the future. One of our little gardens has recently produced nice tomatoes, spinach and egg plants. Our social worker supported the children’s project by purchasing some vegetables.
